The IPG mentoring PROGRAMME
Our mentoring programme has supported many individuals since launching over ten years ago, but we know that some other members remain unaware of it—and we are keen that more people enjoy its benefits.
The mentoring programme is a perfect example of what IPG members do so well and so generously: share their expertise and experience with others. The idea is simple: we pair up some of the most experienced people in our membership with others who are at an earlier stage in their careers. They speak on the phone, email and meet face to face over a six-month period, discussing anything from specific projects to big-picture strategies to personal and professional development.
It is a brilliant way of channelling support from within the IPG’s amazing networks to those who would like it. Our events and resources are excellent ways of sharing tips and skills, but the mentoring scheme adds an extra, personal dimension. One to one advice, tailored to an individual’s specific needs, can really help people to grow their businesses and their own skillsets. For smaller, growing publishers in particular, the opportunity to receive guidance from people who have been through the same challenges is invaluable.
Those who have been mentored have enjoyed the experience and our mentors tell us they have learned a lot from their partners too, and found pleasure in passing on the knowledge that has been imparted to them over the years.
If you would like to get involved in the IPG’s mentoring programme, whether as an individual seeking support or as a mentor, we would be delighted to hear from you. Drop us a line and we will get the ball rolling.
It’s been a positive experience for me and I have really appreciated [my mentor’s] support. It has been very useful to have someone to discuss and share our [business] approach with, and compare standards and best practice... In addition, [my mentor] has been very supportive of my professional development.
It has been a real relief to have contact with someone that I don't work with but who knows the industry well. I've been able to ask honest questions without worrying that I would look silly. It's been great to talk about my worries, to be reassured and to be given ideas for developing my skills. Very worthwhile.
