IPG to take over the running of the Publishing Training Centre

The Publishing Training Centre (PTC) is pleased to announce it has agreed terms with the Independent Publishers Guild (IPG) to take over the running of the charity in 2021.

After a tender process designed to secure the long-term future of the PTC, its Board of Trustees has agreed that the IPG will assume full responsibility for the planning and delivery of all training content. A Letter of Intent has been signed and subject to due diligence and other legalities, the new-look PTC will officially relaunch in Spring 2021.

In the meantime, the PTC continues to run as normal. Its distance learning and virtual courses have been very popular during the coronavirus crisis, providing publishing professionals with the opportunity to improve their skills while not being able to face-to-face. Current courses are unaffected, and virtual in-company training will continue as scheduled into 2021.

The IPG will use its experience from developing its popular Skills Hub portal to build a new portfolio of interactive online training resources that are available on demand. It will also seek to partner with other publishing organisations to create and promote training content that supports professionals in different departments and at all stages of their careers. Resources will be available on a whole-company subscription or one-off cost basis. The IPG aims to make training accessible to everyone in the industry, regardless of location or level of expertise.

Lis Tribe, Chair of Trustees at the PTC, said: “We are very pleased to be placing the Publishing Training Centre in the safe hands of the IPG. The PTC has a long and proud history of serving publishers, but the time is right for a reimagining of its provision and processes. The IPG has the experience, expertise and networks that are needed to ensure that training stays at the heart of publishing.”

IPG Chief Executive Bridget Shine said: “It’s a privilege to be taking on responsibility for the Publishing Training Centre. Professional development has always been at the core of the IPG’s work, and we are excited to be using our deep knowledge of publishers’ priorities and skills gaps to create a new centre of excellence for the entire industry. From the UK’s biggest publishers down to the smallest start-ups, we’re setting out to give everyone access to the high quality, cost-effective training that they deserve.”
