Rethink Press, an expanding hybrid publisher of business and personal development books, is looking for an experienced freelance project editor.
Rethink Press publishes around 70 books a year, predominantly by entrepreneur and business authors, some of whom are market leaders and others whose readership is niche or specialist.
You will work on around 2-5 books at any one time, taking them through all stages of production from manuscript to final files. You will make initial contact at ms handover, assess illustrations, brief copy-editors, designers, typesetters and proofreaders; resolve queries and check all stages of proofs and final files; and work closely with members of the Rethink team and the author throughout the production process, following house style and documented processes and guidelines. You will work from home but be an integral part of a small team, checking in daily and attending one weekly production meeting and occasional team meetings.
You are an experienced, well-organised freelance project editor used to working on your own initiative, with a methodical but flexible approach and excellent editorial and communication skills. You have a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role and are able to deal with authors both reassuringly and confidently. You are able to commit from around 4 up to about 10 hours a week to Rethink, with hours worked flexibly.
