Job Description

The new role of Journals Publishing Assistant reflects our growing journals portfolio and ambitious future plans. Reporting to the Director of Journals Publishing and working closely with the Journals Publishing Manager, the role will cover a wide range of journals activity. The job is based in Liverpool, but will require some travel.

The Journals Publishing Assistant will undertake the following duties under guidance from the Journals Publishing Manager and Director of Journals Publishing:

  • Oversee editorial administration for the journals list
  • Manage and respond to access queries for LUP website users
  • Manage the member lists for our partners (Societies, Organisations, Universities)
  • Memberships tasks - processing and uploading Society membership lists, running reports using the in-house Subscription system as and when needed, liaising with partners
  • Assist the JPM with preparation of annual reports, liaising with other departments
  • Assist with bibliometric and usage analysis/reporting for partners
  • Send out author PDFs via email to contributors once journal issues have been published
  • Liaise with editors of all journals for nominations for our annual Reviewer Awards
  • Act as ‘admin’ on the ScholarOne site for approx. 8 journals
  • Arrange, attend and contribute to editorial board meetings when necessary
  •  Providing general assistance to all journal editors, authors and subscribers for various queries

The Journals Publishing Assistant will also undertake such other duties as will be decided by the Director of Journals Publishing.

Person specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Possess at least 6 months experience in publishing, through current employment, work experience placement, internship or other activity.
  • Show initiative, enthusiasm and the confidence to engage with the distinguished scholars who comprise our journals editors, editorial boards and contributors.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of current issues and pressures in the publishing industry.
  • Possess excellent administrative and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Possess a good honours degree in a relevant field.

Salary: £22,000 (LUP salary band 1) plus potential bonus

Benefits include 36 days holiday plus Bank Holidays and excellent USS pension scheme.

This role is hybrid with a minimum two days in the office at 4 Cambridge Street, Liverpool (either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) and three days remote working.
