The Role:

Sweet Cherry Publishing is an award-winning children’s book publisher and we’re hiring for a Head of Sales and Marketing. This role is ideal for an experienced sales professional with proven experience in implementing domestic and export sales strategy and managing a team of sales and marketing professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the MD and Publisher to devise B2C and B2B sales strategies in the domestic market at in existing and new export territories
  • Strategically growing sales and providing sales forecasts
  • Managing a team of 4 direct reports in the sales and marketing team to track performance and sales targets
  • Managing relationships and growth with UK sales accounts
  • Working closely with the sales assistant to ensure orders are processed in a timely and accurate manner with exceptional attention to customer service and account management
  • Working closely with the foreign rights manager to manage translation rights sales and strategise rights sales growth
  • Working closely with the marketing and publicity manager to manage marketing and publicity campaign activity and goals
  • Working closely with the export sales manager to schedule print run sales and manager a number of relationships with international distribution partners and agents, and develop new accounts in line with export growth strategy
  • Working closely with the production, operations and senior management team to track the production status of new products and restocks of existing products
  • Organising and attending meetings in the domestic market and in international territories
  • Organising and attending trade and consumer exhibitions, in the UK and worldwide
  • Managing a diary of meetings with key accounts and potential new ones, both face-to-face or in a virtual environment
  • Working with SMT to devise profitable title strategies and creative brainstorming
  • Perform managerial duties to meet the company’s operations goals
  • Providing sales and market reports to feed back to the wider team
  • Working with key stakeholders in the business and an external business coach to support the company’s profit and sales goals
  • Carrying out other sales, admin, marketing and operational duties as and when required

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • At least 5 years experience working in sales and management
  • Proven experience working in sales, providing sales forecasts and implementing sales growth strategies
  • Proven experience in managing a team of direct reports
  • Energy and passion to drive the business forward
  • Excellent IT skills and experience quickly learning new software
  • Experience using CRMs and project management software
  • Confidence to lead business negotiations
  • Strong executive level verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent mathematical, accounting and finance skills
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement

Working Hours: 40 hours per week (flexible) Monday to Friday.

Core office hours: 9.30am – 4.30pm. (30 minute or 1 hour lunch unpaid)
