Job description

The opportunity

Bloomsbury has created a new role heading up the UK publishing of a fast-growing global author brand. As editorial brand lead, you will have insight into the passions of fantasy, romance and crossover fans, an understanding of how books and their packages engage and sustain readers, and a commitment to making brilliant, beautiful books with the widest possible reach. You will need to be across both the big ideas and the detail, a passionate advocate for your books and a lynchpin for the global team driving this dynamic, fast-growing brand. Every epic, genre-busting adventure needs someone to rally the troops, sharpen the arrows, check the maps and make sure everyone’s heading in the right direction. If you want to join our quest, get in touch.

The role

  • Editorial leader for the UK and international territories
  • Co-ordinating with global teams to ensure that all elements of the publishing are executed on schedule and to budget
  • Briefing and developing market-leading packages, with attention to every element of the product in all formats
  • Creating and maintaining dynamic metadata and bibliographic records
  • Be thoroughly immersed in and expert on the books – developing and maintaining brand bibles, ensuring that all Bloomsbury outputs reflect the content, characters and brand values effectively
  • Writing great copy – often collaboratively, working with the primary editor and marketers
  • Staying on top of the competition – wide-ranging market knowledge and competitor awareness
  • Representing the UK editorial team in global meetings, internal and external, and maintaining great relationships with author and agent
  • Working with the team to deliver an ambitious growth plan with clear financial KPIs

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • A positive and creative individual who can motivate their peers and colleagues
  • Significant experience working on complex author brands in an editorial role
  • Practical, highly organised and ambitious to deliver the very best results
  • A strong, clear, persuasive communicator and collaborative team member
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Highly commercially aware, with insight into sales and marketing strategies
  • Deep knowledge of fantasy and romance genres
