Job description

Editorial Assistant for Drama

Faber is one of the world’s pre-eminent independent publishing houses, committed to the work of the most dynamic and significant creative voices. The current list spans Nobel laureates, bestselling fiction, award-winning poetry and non-fiction, film and classical music, and maintains an unrivalled commitment to modern drama.

The purpose of this role is to support Dinah Wood, Faber’s Editorial Director for Drama. It offers the opportunity to work with remarkable playwrights across an outstanding list of plays. The list ranges from such widely celebrated playwrights as Alan Bennett, Marina Carr, Brian Friel, David Hare, Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard and Timberlake Wertenbaker, to younger generations of voices, including Dipo Baruwa-Etti, Joseph Charlton, Matthew Lopez, Antoinette Nwandu and Polly Stenham.

The Editorial Assistant’s responsibilities will include providing exceptional author care, maintaining bibliographic systems and metadata, assistance with our digital platforms, Drama Online and Screen Studies, collating press quotes, providing administrative support, logging, reading and responding to submissions, occasional proofreading and copy-checking, copywriting and liaising with other departments.

The successful candidate will have a passion for theatregoing, from fringe venues to the West End and beyond, and will demonstrate a genuine interest in and knowledge of drama. They will be organised and have excellent people skills, an eye for detail, a flair for the written word, and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Experience of working in the theatre, as well as any previous publishing experience, will be an advantage, though neither a necessity.

This is a full-time position based in our London office.

Salary: £25,000 per annum
