Job description

David and Charles is an independent, award winning, publishing company . We create books and products that ignite and nurture our readers' hobbies and interests. We publish across art, craft, wellbeing and transport categories.

We’re looking for an Editor to support around a third of our publishing programme, which will encompass our expanding Practical Art list. Reporting to the Senior Commissioning Editor (Practical Art), the Editor will oversee all areas of the editorial process for their allocated titles, from initial planning meeting through to final book files. They will also work on additional tasks such as eBook project management and reprints, as well as providing editorial support to the sales and marketing teams for the creation of catalogues and sales materials.

We are a small team and outsource a substantial proportion of editorial work, so part of this role involves the commissioning of and regular liaison with freelance editors, proofreaders and indexers. This involves coordinating schedules, budgets, and editorial briefs. Excellent organisation and communication skills are a must.

We are looking for someone with a passion for beautifully illustrated books and a commitment to editorial excellence.  The candidate should have a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign and be a team player who can collaborate effectively but also take ownership of their titles and their workload.  They should have a good working knowledge of editorial project management processes and excellent communication skills. At least 2 years’ experience in an equivalent editorial role is preferred.
